WHY SHADELYS EXISTS
Across Australia, people put real time and money into their outdoor spaces: a new pool, a deck, a proper outdoor dining area. Then summer arrives, and by late morning the sun makes the whole space too hot to use.
A shade sail is one of the best answers to that problem. It covers a large area, leaves the space underneath completely free, and looks like part of the design rather than equipment you put up with.
But buying one online is often confusing. Which size do you actually need? What can you fix it to? Is the hardware included? Will it cope with rain and wind? Too often, the answers only come after the parcel arrives.
Shadelys started there. We focus on shade sails, and we explain them properly: clear sizes, honest specifications and practical advice on fixing and tensioning, so you can choose the right sail the first time.
- OUR APPROACH -
We don't list a product because it's cheap to source or easy to sell. Every piece in the Shadelys range is chosen against the questions I wish someone had answered for me before I bought mine: how much wind can it actually take before it tips, what base weight does it really need, how long before the fabric fades, and will the mechanism still work in two years, not just two months.
A good shade solution has to do two things at once: hold up to real Australian conditions, and actually look like it belongs in the space you've spent time and money creating. Neither one is optional, that's the whole point of what we choose to sell.
We don't just sell "umbrellas." We sell shade, matched to how you actually use the space: cantilever umbrellas where you need the area kept clear of poles, shade sails where you need to cover a bigger zone permanently, retractable awnings where you want shade on demand, and classic parasols for smaller spaces. What doesn't change is the standard: built to be lived under, not just looked at.
OUR APPROACH
Every sail we list comes with sizes measured corner to corner, a size guide showing the anchor spacing it needs, and a clear answer on rain: water-resistant or waterproof, and what that means in practice.
We tell you what's included and what isn't. If a sail needs fixing hardware, we say so, and we offer stainless steel fixing kits designed to anchor, tension and quickly unclip it.
We also tell you where not to fix a sail. Fascia boards, gutters and fences aren't built for the pull of a tensioned sail, and saying so up front saves you a lot of trouble later.
Shade sails are our focus, but not every space suits them. For balconies or spaces without solid anchor points, we also offer cantilever and market umbrellas that stand on their own base.
THE NAME
We wanted a name that says what we do, without sounding like a hardware catalogue.
"Shade" is the easy half: it's the whole reason we exist, a space you can actually sit in when the sun is at its strongest. The second half isn't a real word on its own, and that's deliberate. It makes the name feel easy and part of everyday life, rather than a technical product category.
Put together, that's the promise: shade you don't have to think twice about, in a space you actually want to spend your afternoon in.
