Detailed Description
A rectangular wooden market umbrella that shades long tables and narrow terraces a round canopy can't reach. The Bastide pairs a 2 x 3 m cream canopy with a simple rope and pulley: no crank, no tilt, nothing to adjust.
Six laminated bamboo ribs and hardwood stretchers open from a strong hardwood pole in a teak colour. Pull the rope, the canopy rises; release it, the canopy closes.
An air vent at the top lets wind and trapped heat escape instead of lifting the canopy. Pair it with a weighted base, and close it when the wind picks up or when you leave it unattended.
The 200 x 300 cm canopy gives approx. 6 m² of shade, enough for a 4-seat rectangular table up to about 1.5 m long. Its long, narrow shape also suits terraces along a wall. Height: 2.5 m. The 38 mm pole fits a centre-hole table or either of our bases.
The canopy is UV-resistant, colourfast polyester and easy to clean. It's water-resistant but not 100% waterproof: for regular heavy rain, treat it with a fabric waterproofing spray. A light coat of teak oil each season keeps the timber looking warm.
Some products may be shipped directly from our partner vidaXL's warehouses.

Wind & Safety
No umbrella is windproof, and we won't pretend otherwise. Here's how to keep yours safe and lasting.
The top air vent lets gusts escape through the canopy instead of lifting it.
Always use a compatible weighted base or a sturdy centre-hole table with a base underneath.
Close the canopy when the wind picks up, and whenever you leave it unattended.
On exposed sites (coastal decks, rooftops, open balconies), close it at the first strong gust.
When not in use for a while, close it, fit a cover and store it somewhere dry.
Closing takes a few seconds with the pulley, and it's the single habit that adds the most years to any umbrella.
Care & Maintenance
Timber: apply a light coat of outdoor timber or teak oil at the start of each season.
Canopy: brush off dust, then clean with a soft cloth, water and mild soap. No bleach or abrasives.
Always let the canopy dry fully before closing it for long periods, to prevent mould.
Rain: the canopy is water-resistant, not waterproof. For regular heavy rain, treat it with a fabric waterproofing spray.
Rope: check it at the start of each season and replace it if it looks frayed.

Your Questions, Answered
Is a base included, and which one do I need?
The base is sold separately, so you can choose the one that suits your space. Both of our bases fit this 38 mm pole: the Socle 25 kg concrete base for sheltered spots or under a centre-hole table, and the Roche 30 kg granite base, our most stable option, with a stainless steel tube and castors to move it around. Choose an umbrella + base bundle above and save up to $60.
Can I use it when it's windy?
In a light breeze, yes: the top air vent lets gusts escape through the canopy, and a weighted base keeps it steady. But no market umbrella is windproof. Close it when the wind picks up and whenever you leave it unattended. It takes a few seconds with the pulley, and it's what keeps your umbrella in good shape for years.
Why a rope and pulley?
A rope and pulley is about as simple as an opening system gets: no gears, nothing to wind, and the rope is easy to check and replace if it ever wears. If you'd like to tilt the canopy to follow the afternoon sun, have a look at our crank-and-tilt models.
Will it fit my outdoor table?
Yes, if your table has a centre hole of at least 38 mm. Place a base under the table to hold the pole upright and steady: the table alone isn't enough. Height under the canopy depends on your table and base, so check the dimensions image before you order.
What size table will it shade?
Is the canopy waterproof?
It's water-resistant, not 100% waterproof. It handles a passing shower, but it isn't designed as a rain roof. For regular heavy rain, treat the canopy with a fabric waterproofing spray, and let it dry fully before closing it for long periods.
Will it fade in the Australian sun?
The canopy is made from UV-protective, anti-fade polyester, chosen to hold its colour outdoors. Like any outdoor fabric, it will soften gradually over the years under strong sun. Closing it when not in use and fitting a cover in the off-season slows this down a lot.
Market umbrella or cantilever: which should I choose?
A market umbrella has its pole in the centre: ideal over a dining table, with fewer moving parts and a lower price. A cantilever hangs the canopy from a side arm, so nothing sits in the middle of your space, which suits loungers and open areas. If you're shading a table, a market umbrella is the simple, reliable choice.
Can I leave it outside all year?
The frame and canopy are made for outdoor use, but they'll last much longer with a little care: close the umbrella when you're not using it, oil the timber each season, and store it somewhere dry and covered during long periods without use, such as winter.
