Product Details

Warm taupe above a natural hardwood pole. Of all the combinations in the Shadelys market umbrella range, the Garrigue is the most organic: an earthy canopy tone that belongs to the same material palette as the timber beneath it, sitting together in the way that clay roof tiles sit above limestone walls — two natural materials that were always going to end up in the same place. At 3.3 metres in diameter, it delivers approximately 8.5m² of warm, grounded shade above the outdoor setting without the visual weight of a darker canopy or the brightness of a pale one.

The 48mm laminated bamboo and hardwood pole rises vertically from the base, anchoring the full 3.3m canopy span from the centre. The double pulley system opens and closes the canopy smoothly across its full diameter — an even, two-line pull that distributes the load naturally at this scale. An air vent at the crown releases heat upward as cooler air circulates in from below, keeping the shade beneath the Garrigue genuinely comfortable through the long, still afternoons that define the Australian outdoor season.

Placed at the centre of a teak or acacia dining table, anchored into a freestanding base on a natural stone terrace or dropped into a centre-hole table on a timber deck, the Garrigue introduces warmth without effort. The taupe canopy absorbs light rather than reflecting it — it doesn't brighten the space the way a sand white canopy does, and it doesn't define it the way anthracite does. It simply settles into the outdoor setting as if it has always been there.

A 3.3m taupe market umbrella for gardens and outdoor entertaining areas

The Garrigue opens to a round canopy of 330cm diameter — approximately 8.5m² of shade. That coverage comfortably shelters an eight-seat outdoor dining table or a relaxed garden lounge setting. The anti-fade polyester canopy is designed to help limit colour degradation during normal outdoor use. Earthy tones conceal dust and airborne debris more effectively than pale alternatives — a practical advantage in garden settings through spring and summer.

The 48mm pole diameter provides the structural rigidity that a canopy this size requires, and the laminated bamboo and hardwood construction delivers meaningful resistance to outdoor conditions over multiple seasons. The double pulley system provides a straightforward manual opening and closing mechanism.

Looking for the same 3.3m structure in a different tone? Compare the Clos in sand white or the Bosquet in anthracite. For a smaller format, discover the Mas 3m. For a larger coverage, explore the Domaine 3.5m. The base is sold separately — our Bedrock Base is compatible with this 48mm pole. For a cantilever alternative with no centre pole, browse our Cantilever Umbrellas collection.

Taupe and timber in the Australian outdoor setting

Taupe is the outdoor tone that asks the least of its surroundings. Above golden stone paving or pale terrazzo, it adds warmth without overwhelming the palette; above hardwood furniture in a sheltered suburban garden, it blends into the bark and grain tones of the timber below it; on a coastal deck or a rural property alfresco, it sits in the same earthy register as weathered timber, natural linen and unglazed ceramic. Where sand white brightens and anthracite anchors, taupe simply belongs.

On a hardwood market umbrella pole, that belonging goes one step further. The warm timber of the 48mm bamboo and hardwood mast and the earthy taupe canopy above it occupy the same tonal range — the kind of quiet material consistency that makes an outdoor setting feel resolved without being studied. It is the combination for outdoor spaces that prefer to feel natural rather than designed, even when they have been thought through carefully.

At a glance

Round canopy 330cm diameter, approximately 8.5m² of shade, 240cm overall height. Laminated bamboo and hardwood pole, 48mm diameter. Double pulley mechanism. Air vent. Anti-fade 100% polyester canopy, taupe. Base not included — the Bedrock Base is compatible with this 48mm pole. The canopy is not fully waterproof; treat with a waterproofing spray for wet conditions. Apply teak oil to the hardwood pole at the start of each season to protect the timber.

Installation and Maintenance

The market umbrella can be assembled using the instructions supplied with the product. Place a compatible umbrella base on a flat, stable surface, insert the pole securely and tighten the fixing mechanism. Choose a base suited to the umbrella’s pole diameter, size and weight. Depending on the model, open the canopy using the crank, pulley or push-up mechanism provided.

Clean the canopy with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap where required. Avoid abrasive products and allow the fabric to dry completely before closing or storing the umbrella. For models with a timber pole, use a suitable outdoor timber oil only where recommended in the product instructions. Close the umbrella during strong or gusty winds and when left unattended. For longer periods of non-use, cover it or store it in a dry, sheltered location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an umbrella base included?

Base inclusion varies by model. Please check the product specifications and the “What’s Included” section before ordering. When sold separately, a compatible weighted base is required.

How do I choose the right umbrella base?

Check the umbrella’s pole diameter, canopy size and any recommended minimum base weight. The base dimensions and compatible pole diameters are listed on each base product page.

Can the umbrella be used with an outdoor table?

Yes, provided the table has a centre hole compatible with the umbrella pole diameter. A suitable weighted base is still required beneath the table to support the umbrella securely.

Can a market umbrella be used in windy conditions?

Always install the umbrella in a compatible weighted base and close the canopy during strong or gusty winds. It should also be closed whenever it is left unattended. A heavier base provides additional support but does not make the umbrella windproof.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a market umbrella and a cantilever umbrella?

A market umbrella has a centre pole positioned beneath the canopy and is commonly used with an outdoor table or a freestanding base. A cantilever umbrella has an offset side pole, leaving the area beneath the canopy free from a central mast.

What size market umbrella should I choose?

Consider the dimensions and shape of the table, seating area or outdoor space you want to shade. Smaller models may suit compact patios and balconies, while larger round, square or rectangular canopies can cover wider dining and lounge areas. Check the measurements listed on each product page before ordering.

What size table or seating area can it shade?

Shade coverage depends on the dimensions and shape of the canopy. Allow enough canopy overhang to shade both the tabletop and surrounding seats. The shaded area will also move throughout the day as the position of the sun changes.

Our outdoor umbrella size guide sets out how to measure your setting and match it to a canopy size.

Are market umbrellas waterproof and UV-resistant?

Water and UV resistance vary depending on the canopy material and coating used for each model. Some fabrics are designed to resist light rain and provide UV protection, but they should not be considered fully waterproof unless this is specifically stated on the product page.

How should I care for the umbrella pole and frame?

Maintenance depends on the materials used. Timber poles may require occasional treatment with a suitable outdoor timber oil where recommended. Aluminium and steel components can generally be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive products and keep moving mechanisms clean and dry.

How should I clean and store the canopy?

Clean the canopy with a soft cloth, mild soap and water where required. Allow it to dry completely before closing or storing the umbrella. During extended periods of non-use, use a suitable outdoor cover or store the umbrella in a dry, sheltered location where possible.

Can I leave my market umbrella outside all year?

Outdoor umbrellas are designed for outdoor use, but prolonged exposure to sunlight, rain, moisture and wind can gradually affect their appearance and materials. Closing and covering the umbrella when it is not being used can help preserve it. Store it in a sheltered location during extended periods of severe weather.
