Detailed Description
A retractable window and terrace awning operated by chain. The Treille is the most compact and mechanically distinct awning in the Shadelys range: a wall-mounted shade structure that extends up to 150cm from the fixing point via a supporting bar and chain mechanism, covers a window completely when fully extended, and retracts to zero projection when not in use. PA coated polyester canopy in anthracite, steel frame, removable and machine washable fabric. A practical shade solution for windows, balconies and compact outdoor spaces where a hand crank awning would not suit the installation.
The PA coated 100% polyester canopy is UV-resistant and water-resistant, providing reliable protection against direct sunlight and outdoor conditions across the full range of the Australian climate. The anthracite fabric absorbs overhead glare without reflecting it, creating a defined shade zone beneath the extended canopy. The canopy is fully removable and machine washable, allowing the fabric to be taken down and cleaned at the start and end of each season rather than wiped in place on the frame.
The chain and supporting bar mechanism operates smoothly through the full retractable range of 0 to 150cm, extending and retracting the canopy without a hand crank. The height and angle of the awning are both adjustable, allowing the Treille to be positioned to suit the specific sun angle and shading requirement of your window or outdoor space. Install on smooth, flat surfaces only for correct operation of the mechanism.
The Treille is available in multiple widths. Select the right width for your window or installation span using the options above. The retractable length adjusts from fully closed to a maximum of 150cm projection, giving you precise control over the shading area throughout the day as the sun angle changes. At full extension the awning covers the window completely, blocking direct sunlight from entering the room and reducing indoor temperature during the hottest hours of the Australian day.
The dual capability of the Treille as both a compact terrace awning and a full window covering makes it suitable for a wider range of installation contexts than a conventional hand crank awning. For apartment balconies where a larger awning would overhang the railing, for windows on north and west-facing facades that need direct sun blocking through summer, or for garden spaces where a smaller, more targeted shade solution is needed rather than a full width awning, the Treille covers what needs covering precisely.
Retractable length: 0-150 cm
Chain and supporting bar mechanism | Adjustable height and angle | Steel frame | PA coated canopy, removable and washable | Smooth flat surface installation required
For other manual awning options in the Shadelys range, see the Volet and Persienne with hand crank operation. For motorised awnings with larger projection, see the Marquise. For freestanding shade solutions beyond the wall zone, our Cantilever Umbrellas and Shade Sails collections offer complementary options.
North and west-facing windows are the primary source of solar heat gain in Australian homes through summer, and a retractable awning directly above the window is one of the most effective passive cooling strategies available without structural modification to the building. The Treille extends outward from the wall above the window frame, blocking direct sunlight before it reaches the glass and reducing the heat that enters the room behind it. When the sun moves or the outdoor space is needed at full height, the canopy retracts completely and the window returns to full light and view.
The anthracite canopy absorbs the overhead sun rather than reflecting it back into the space or diffusing it through a pale fabric, making the Treille the strongest light-blocking option in the manual awning range. For spaces where the priority is maximum solar heat reduction during the peak afternoon hours, a dark canopy at full extension delivers the most direct result.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the umbrella come with a base?
The umbrella includes a 100 x 100 cm aluminium cross base. The cross base is not a complete weighted base: a compatible ballast or anchoring system is required and sold separately.
The Holdfast Base Weight Kit is designed for compatible cross bases and provides up to approximately 100 kg of added ballast when fully filled with dry sand. Always follow the installation instructions and close the canopy during strong or gusty winds and whenever the umbrella is left unattended.
Can the umbrella be used in windy conditions?
The upper vent allows some air to pass through the canopy, but the umbrella is not windproof and no tested wind-speed rating is stated for this product.
Use the umbrella only with a compatible ballast or anchoring system. Close the canopy during strong or gusty winds, whenever it is left unattended and before moving the base.
How should I care for the canopy?
The polyester canopy with PA coating can be cleaned using a soft cloth, mild soap and water. Prolonged exposure to sunlight and outdoor conditions can gradually affect any fabric colour, so closing and covering the umbrella when it is not in use can help preserve its appearance. Allow the canopy to dry fully before folding or storing it.
What size table can the umbrella cover?
Shade coverage depends on the canopy diameter of the specific model — refer to the product dimensions listed above. As the pole is positioned to the side, the entire area beneath the canopy remains free from a central mast, allowing flexible furniture placement below. The circular canopy profile centres naturally above round outdoor dining tables and poolside lounge settings.
Actual shade coverage varies depending on sun angle and umbrella position throughout the day. Where fitted, the tilt function allows you to adjust the canopy angle to maintain effective coverage as the sun moves.
How do I choose the right canopy colour?
Choose a canopy colour that complements the furniture, flooring and finishes already present in your outdoor space. Neutral shades can blend easily with timber, stone and metal furniture, while darker or lighter options can create more contrast. Colours may appear slightly different depending on natural light and screen settings.

How to Install Your Retractable Awning
STEP 1
Check your wall and plan your bracket position
Before purchasing or assembling, confirm that your chosen installation surface is solid masonry, structural timber or steel capable of bearing the weight of the awning and the load applied by wind on the extended canopy. Lightweight cladding, hollow-core walls, guttering and non-structural fascia are not suitable mounting surfaces.
Mark the bracket positions on the wall at the correct height for your installation. Most models allow height adjustment after mounting, but the bracket fixing point determines the usable range. Ensure the surface is smooth and flat at the fixing points for correct bracket contact and load distribution. Wall mounting hardware is not included with the awning and must be sourced separately based on your wall type.
STEP 2
Mount the bracket and assemble the awning
Fix the mounting brackets securely to the wall at the marked positions using fasteners rated for the wall material and load. Once the brackets are in place, attach the awning frame to the brackets following the supplied assembly instructions. Extend the awning fully using the crank or chain mechanism to check that the canopy opens evenly and that the frame arms extend without obstruction.
Adjust the canopy angle and installation height to suit your outdoor space and the sun angle you want to block. Retract the awning fully after installation to confirm the mechanism retracts cleanly and the canopy folds without bunching. If in doubt about your wall type or load capacity, consult a qualified installer or builder before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I install a retractable awning safely?
Mount the awning to a solid wall, structural fascia or beam using fasteners rated for the surface material and load. Every bracket fixing point must be anchored into solid masonry, structural timber or steel. Do not mount to lightweight cladding, hollow walls, guttering or non-structural surfaces. Wall mounting hardware is not included with any awning in the Shadelys range. If you are unsure whether your wall is suitable, consult a qualified installer before proceeding.
How do I choose the right awning colour?
Choose a canopy colour that complements the exterior finishes, cladding and furniture already present in your outdoor space. Neutral tones such as cream and taupe integrate naturally across most Australian home styles, from coastal to contemporary to heritage. Anthracite creates a stronger contrast and provides deeper shade by absorbing more overhead light. Striped combinations such as blue and white introduce pattern and a coastal character. For window installations, note that darker tones block more light from entering the room, while lighter tones diffuse it. Colours may appear slightly different depending on natural light and screen settings.
How do I choose the right awning size?
Measure the width of the area you want to shade, from wall edge to wall edge or post to post, and select the awning width that best matches your span. For projection, consider how far from the wall the shade needs to extend to cover your outdoor dining or lounge area effectively. Most motorised models in the Shadelys range offer a projection of up to 300cm, suited to full alfresco and patio coverage. Manual models offer a shorter projection suited to balconies, windows and compact outdoor spaces. Refer to the individual product page for the specific width and projection of each model.
Can I install a retractable awning without drilling into walls?
Standard retractable awnings require the mounting brackets to be fixed into a solid wall or structural surface. Freestanding awning frames mounted on weighted posts are an alternative where wall drilling is not possible, but no freestanding mounting option is included in the Shadelys awning range. For shade solutions that require no wall fixing at all, our Cantilever Umbrellas and Shade Sails collections provide freestanding alternatives suited to open outdoor areas.
What fabric options are available in the Shadelys awning range?
Awnings in the Shadelys range use either PU coated polyester or PA coated polyester fabric, depending on the model. PU (polyurethane) coated fabric provides water resistance, UV resistance and enhanced everyday durability. PA (polyamide) coated fabric provides UV and water resistance with a lightweight construction. Refer to the individual product page for the specific fabric type, weight and care instructions for each model. Some models feature a removable and machine washable canopy; others are cleaned in place with a damp cloth.
Are retractable awnings weather resistant?
All awnings in the Shadelys range use UV-resistant and water-resistant fabric construction suitable for normal Australian outdoor conditions. The canopy fabric handles direct sunlight and light to moderate rainfall without saturating. No awning in this range is rated as fully waterproof under prolonged heavy rainfall, and none carries a tested wind-speed rating. Always retract the awning during strong or gusty winds, heavy rain, and whenever it is left unattended for extended periods.
