Detailed Description
Blue and white, across four metres of retractable canopy. The Côtier brings the most distinctly coastal colour combination in the Shadelys awning range to a 400cm wide motorised shade structure, extending three metres outward from the wall above a patio, deck or alfresco dining area at the press of a button. Where the Marquise anchors a space in deep anthracite and the Brise opens it in pale cream, the Côtier references something else entirely: the blue and white of a beach umbrella, a sailing hull, a coastal café awning. The outdoor space as a place you want to be in, not just a place you are shading.
The powder-coated aluminium frame is built for rust resistance, combining a lightweight profile with the structural rigidity required to support a 4m wide canopy at full projection. The folding arm mechanism extends and retracts smoothly under motorised operation, with the included remote control managing the full sequence from anywhere in the outdoor area. The manual hand crank provides a reliable independent backup for installation, power interruptions or everyday preference over motorised operation.
The canopy angle and mounting height are both adjustable, allowing the Côtier to be set to the specific geometry of your outdoor space and the sun angle that matters most across your day. The blue and white fabric introduces colour and pattern overhead rather than a flat tone, creating a canopy that is as much a design feature as a functional shade structure.
The Côtier extends to 400cm wide with a 300cm projection from the wall, a footprint suited to a large alfresco dining area, a generous deck adjacent to the house or any outdoor entertaining space where a freestanding shade structure would occupy usable floor space. The UV-resistant, water-resistant PU coated polyester canopy handles direct sunlight and light to moderate rainfall without saturating, and holds its blue and white combination through sustained UV exposure without the blue fading toward a pale grey or the white yellowing.
The two-tone striped format is the most visually distinctive canopy in the range. Where a solid colour reads as a plane of shade overhead, a striped canopy introduces rhythm and movement into the outdoor space, softening the architectural weight of a 4m wide overhead structure and connecting it visually to the garden, the coast or the sky beyond. It is the choice for outdoor spaces where the awning is meant to contribute to the setting rather than simply cover it.

Motorised with remote control | Manual hand crank included | Powder-coated aluminium frame | Adjustable angle and height
For shade coverage beyond the awning zone, our Cantilever Umbrellas and Shade Sails collections offer complementary freestanding options for open decks, garden areas and poolside settings. To compare with the solid-tone versions of the same awning, see the Marquise in anthracite or the Brise in cream.
Blue and white is the palette of Australian coastal living at its most direct. Against white render or pale timber cladding, a blue and white striped awning reads as an extension of the coastal aesthetic rather than a contrast to it. Above a deck with outdoor furniture in natural materials, it introduces the colour that makes the space feel like a destination rather than a utility area. In garden settings away from the coast, the blue and white combination brings a fresh, relaxed quality that neither a dark nor a pale solid canopy can replicate on its own.
The practical case is as strong as the aesthetic one. Blue tones absorb overhead light more effectively than white or cream, creating meaningful shade beneath the canopy during the peak midday and afternoon hours. The white component reflects some of the heat load back upward, moderating the temperature beneath the striped canopy to something between a dark and a pale solid alternative. It is the combination that balances shade performance with visual openness more naturally than any single tone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the umbrella come with a base?
The umbrella includes a 100 x 100 cm aluminium cross base. The cross base is not a complete weighted base: a compatible ballast or anchoring system is required and sold separately.
The Holdfast Base Weight Kit is designed for compatible cross bases and provides up to approximately 100 kg of added ballast when fully filled with dry sand. Always follow the installation instructions and close the canopy during strong or gusty winds and whenever the umbrella is left unattended.
Can the umbrella be used in windy conditions?
The upper vent allows some air to pass through the canopy, but the umbrella is not windproof and no tested wind-speed rating is stated for this product.
Use the umbrella only with a compatible ballast or anchoring system. Close the canopy during strong or gusty winds, whenever it is left unattended and before moving the base.
How should I care for the canopy?
The polyester canopy with PA coating can be cleaned using a soft cloth, mild soap and water. Prolonged exposure to sunlight and outdoor conditions can gradually affect any fabric colour, so closing and covering the umbrella when it is not in use can help preserve its appearance. Allow the canopy to dry fully before folding or storing it.
What size table can the umbrella cover?
Shade coverage depends on the canopy diameter of the specific model — refer to the product dimensions listed above. As the pole is positioned to the side, the entire area beneath the canopy remains free from a central mast, allowing flexible furniture placement below. The circular canopy profile centres naturally above round outdoor dining tables and poolside lounge settings.
Actual shade coverage varies depending on sun angle and umbrella position throughout the day. Where fitted, the tilt function allows you to adjust the canopy angle to maintain effective coverage as the sun moves.
How do I choose the right canopy colour?
Choose a canopy colour that complements the furniture, flooring and finishes already present in your outdoor space. Neutral shades can blend easily with timber, stone and metal furniture, while darker or lighter options can create more contrast. Colours may appear slightly different depending on natural light and screen settings.

How to Install Your Retractable Awning
STEP 1
Check your wall and plan your bracket position
Before purchasing or assembling, confirm that your chosen installation surface is solid masonry, structural timber or steel capable of bearing the weight of the awning and the load applied by wind on the extended canopy. Lightweight cladding, hollow-core walls, guttering and non-structural fascia are not suitable mounting surfaces.
Mark the bracket positions on the wall at the correct height for your installation. Most models allow height adjustment after mounting, but the bracket fixing point determines the usable range. Ensure the surface is smooth and flat at the fixing points for correct bracket contact and load distribution. Wall mounting hardware is not included with the awning and must be sourced separately based on your wall type.
STEP 2
Mount the bracket and assemble the awning
Fix the mounting brackets securely to the wall at the marked positions using fasteners rated for the wall material and load. Once the brackets are in place, attach the awning frame to the brackets following the supplied assembly instructions. Extend the awning fully using the crank or chain mechanism to check that the canopy opens evenly and that the frame arms extend without obstruction.
Adjust the canopy angle and installation height to suit your outdoor space and the sun angle you want to block. Retract the awning fully after installation to confirm the mechanism retracts cleanly and the canopy folds without bunching. If in doubt about your wall type or load capacity, consult a qualified installer or builder before proceeding.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I install a retractable awning safely?
Mount the awning to a solid wall, structural fascia or beam using fasteners rated for the surface material and load. Every bracket fixing point must be anchored into solid masonry, structural timber or steel. Do not mount to lightweight cladding, hollow walls, guttering or non-structural surfaces. Wall mounting hardware is not included with any awning in the Shadelys range. If you are unsure whether your wall is suitable, consult a qualified installer before proceeding.
How do I choose the right awning colour?
Choose a canopy colour that complements the exterior finishes, cladding and furniture already present in your outdoor space. Neutral tones such as cream and taupe integrate naturally across most Australian home styles, from coastal to contemporary to heritage. Anthracite creates a stronger contrast and provides deeper shade by absorbing more overhead light. Striped combinations such as blue and white introduce pattern and a coastal character. For window installations, note that darker tones block more light from entering the room, while lighter tones diffuse it. Colours may appear slightly different depending on natural light and screen settings.
How do I choose the right awning size?
Measure the width of the area you want to shade, from wall edge to wall edge or post to post, and select the awning width that best matches your span. For projection, consider how far from the wall the shade needs to extend to cover your outdoor dining or lounge area effectively. Most motorised models in the Shadelys range offer a projection of up to 300cm, suited to full alfresco and patio coverage. Manual models offer a shorter projection suited to balconies, windows and compact outdoor spaces. Refer to the individual product page for the specific width and projection of each model.
Can I install a retractable awning without drilling into walls?
Standard retractable awnings require the mounting brackets to be fixed into a solid wall or structural surface. Freestanding awning frames mounted on weighted posts are an alternative where wall drilling is not possible, but no freestanding mounting option is included in the Shadelys awning range. For shade solutions that require no wall fixing at all, our Cantilever Umbrellas and Shade Sails collections provide freestanding alternatives suited to open outdoor areas.
What fabric options are available in the Shadelys awning range?
Awnings in the Shadelys range use either PU coated polyester or PA coated polyester fabric, depending on the model. PU (polyurethane) coated fabric provides water resistance, UV resistance and enhanced everyday durability. PA (polyamide) coated fabric provides UV and water resistance with a lightweight construction. Refer to the individual product page for the specific fabric type, weight and care instructions for each model. Some models feature a removable and machine washable canopy; others are cleaned in place with a damp cloth.
Are retractable awnings weather resistant?
All awnings in the Shadelys range use UV-resistant and water-resistant fabric construction suitable for normal Australian outdoor conditions. The canopy fabric handles direct sunlight and light to moderate rainfall without saturating. No awning in this range is rated as fully waterproof under prolonged heavy rainfall, and none carries a tested wind-speed rating. Always retract the awning during strong or gusty winds, heavy rain, and whenever it is left unattended for extended periods.
