Four fillable polypropylene plates designed to add distributed ballast around a compatible cantilever umbrella cross base. Wind and changing weather conditions can move or overturn an inadequately installed umbrella, so the umbrella must be assembled and weighted in accordance with its instructions.
The Holdfast Kit adds ballast but does not make an umbrella windproof.
Each plate measures 49x49cm with an 11cm profile. Filled with dry sand, each plate reaches approximately 25kg — four plates positioned around the cross base provide up to approximately 100 kg of distributed ballast when fully filled with dry sand. The plates interlock directly onto the horizontal bars of a standard 100x100cm cross base without any tools: position each plate, fill through the top opening, close the caps. At just 11cm assembled height, the kit sits flat beneath your umbrella, all but invisible at ground level once the canopy is open above it.
When all four plates are correctly positioned and fully filled with dry sand, the kit provides up to approximately 100 kg of added ballast distributed around the cross base.
The Holdfast Kit is designed for compatible cantilever umbrellas using a 100 x 100 cm cross base. All four plates are identical and are positioned around the cross base to distribute the added weight.
The polypropylene construction is intended for outdoor use. Its appearance and condition may gradually change depending on sunlight, weather exposure, filling material, use and maintenance.
Fill the plates with dry sand in accordance with the supplied instructions. Allow approximately 17 litres or 25 kg of dry sand per plate, and approximately 68 to 70 litres in total, to reach a combined filled weight of up to approximately 100 kg.
Do not fill this model with water unless the supplied instructions expressly permit it.

At 11cm assembled height with an anthracite matte finish, the Holdfast Kit sits below the sightline of any outdoor setting and recedes against most paving surfaces — concrete, bluestone, timber decking, terracotta tile. It does its job without drawing attention to itself, which is exactly what a good ballast system should do.
When the season ends, the process reverses in minutes: remove the sand, unclip the four plates from the cross base and stack them flat. Four plates nest into a footprint of roughly 50x50x11cm — compact enough for a garage shelf, a garden shed corner or under a bench. Come spring, reassemble and refill. No seasonal storage headaches, no bulky equipment to find space for.
The kit provides up to approximately 100 kg of added ballast when fully filled with dry sand. The amount and type of ballast required depend on the umbrella instructions, canopy dimensions, installation method, supporting surface and exposure.
Additional anchoring may be required in some locations. Close the umbrella during strong or gusty winds and whenever it is left unattended.

Installation and Maintenance
The Holdfast Base Weight Kit can be installed without tools in under 15 minutes. Position your cantilever umbrella in its intended location with the cross base in place. Arrange the four plates around the base and fit them over the horizontal crossbars. Fill each plate through the upper opening with dry river sand, allowing approximately 17 litres or 25 kg per plate. Securely replace the caps once filled.
Minimal routine maintenance is required. Wipe the plates with a soft, damp cloth and periodically check the caps, plate bodies and contact points for damage or loosening.
During extended periods of non-use, the plates may be emptied and stored in a dry, sheltered location where practical.

No umbrella or ballast system should be considered windproof. When fully filled, the four plates provide up to approximately 100 kg of additional ballast, but the canopy must still be closed during strong or gusty winds and whenever the umbrella is left unattended.

How is the base weight kit installed?
Place the cantilever umbrella in its intended position with its cross base resting on a flat, stable surface. Arrange the four plates around the base and fit them over the horizontal crossbars. Fill each plate through the upper opening with dry sand, then securely replace the caps.
What type of sand should I use?
Use clean, dry sand that can pass easily through the filling openings. Dry river sand or general-purpose building sand may be suitable. Avoid wet or heavily compacted sand, as it can be more difficult to pour into or remove from the plates.
Do all four plates need to be completely filled?
Filling all four plates evenly provides the kit’s maximum combined ballast of approximately 100 kg. Partially filled or unevenly filled plates will provide less support. Always follow the base-weight recommendations supplied with your umbrella.
Can this kit be used with a market umbrella?
The kit is primarily designed for cantilever umbrellas with a compatible cross base. Most market umbrellas use a centre-pole base and therefore require a different style of umbrella stand. Check the base design and compatibility measurements before ordering.
