Product Details

Terracotta and dark grey, across 449 centimetres. The Xaloc draws from the oldest colour in outdoor architecture — fired clay, red earth, the tone of every handmade roof tile and unglazed pot that has ever sat in a Mediterranean or Australian garden — and extends it across the widest shade structure in the Shadelys range. Where the Garbi reaches for the depth of red wine country, the Xaloc goes further back: to the earth itself, to the clay palette that runs through Australian landscape from the red soil of the outback to the sandstone of the coast. Above a long alfresco table or a generous pool deck, the terracotta canopy is not a decoration — it is a material statement.

The powder-coated iron mast supports two canopies in terracotta and dark grey extending outward from a single central pole across the full 449cm span. UV-protective and anti-fade polyester in both tones holds its warmth and depth through sustained Australian sun exposure — The UV-resistant and fade-resistant polyester canopy is designed to help limit colour degradation during normal outdoor use. Both canopies open and close in a single crank action. Integrated LED lighting — three lights on each rib and a central panel at the hub — activates after dark, the terracotta canopy filtering LED output into a warm, clay-edged glow that sits between the golden warmth of taupe and the deep richness of bordeaux: earthy, warm and genuinely distinctive after dark.

The included sandbag base anchors the structure from the first use. At 449cm across, the Xaloc brings the coverage of a large-format shade structure with the grounded, mineral warmth of the most distinctly Australian colour in the range.

A double canopy LED market umbrella for warm, character-led outdoor spaces

The Xaloc spans 449cm in length and 265cm in width at full opening — a footprint suited to extended outdoor dining settings, large pool decks and open garden entertaining areas where a single umbrella leaves part of the space in full sun. The UV-protective, anti-fade polyester canopies in terracotta and dark grey resist colour degradation through sustained UV exposure and wipe clean easily with a damp cloth. Terracotta and clay tones conceal dust and surface debris effectively, a practical advantage in garden settings through the Australian spring and summer when airborne pollen and red soil dust are a daily reality.

The 48mm powder-coated iron pole provides the structural rigidity required to support two canopies across this span. The crank mechanism opens and closes both canopies simultaneously in a single smooth action. The integrated LED system illuminates the full structure from above after dark — three LEDs per rib distribute light evenly along each canopy edge, while the central panel addresses the space directly beneath the hub. Through a terracotta canopy, the LED output takes on a warm, mineral glow — closer to firelight than to artificial light — that makes the outdoor space beneath the Xaloc feel genuinely alive after the sun goes down.

Terracotta in the Australian outdoor entertaining space

Terracotta is the colour that connects an outdoor setting to the landscape around it more directly than any other. In Australia, that connection runs deep: the red soil of the interior, the sandstone of the coastal cliffs, the clay brickwork of the Federation terrace and the Queenslander verandah — terracotta is embedded in the built and natural Australian environment in a way that makes it feel less like a colour choice and more like a material truth. Above a timber outdoor dining table, a rattan lounge setting or a concrete alfresco with terracotta pots and native planting in rust and ochre, the Xaloc completes the palette rather than introducing a new one.

The dark grey second canopy grounds the terracotta without competing with it — the pairing sits in the same register as raw concrete beside red brick, or steel beside sandstone: two materials from the earth, in quiet, resolved contrast. After dark, the LED system makes the most of the terracotta fabric: the warm, mineral-filtered glow it produces is the closest thing in the range to the quality of candlelight overhead, the kind of evening atmosphere that keeps people at the table long after the meal is finished.

Installation and Maintenance

The umbrella can be assembled using the supplied instructions. Place the included base on a flat, stable surface, secure the iron mast in position, then open both canopies using the crank handle. Fill the sandbag base fully with sand before use to ensure adequate stability.

Ballast does not make the umbrella windproof. Close both canopies during strong or gusty winds and whenever the umbrella is left unattended. A double canopy umbrella presents a significantly larger surface area to wind than a standard single umbrella — closing in adverse conditions is particularly important.

The polyester canopies can be cleaned using a soft, damp cloth. Allow both canopies to dry completely before closing or storing the umbrella. When not in use for extended periods, close the canopies and protect the umbrella with a suitable outdoor cover where possible. Avoid directing high-pressure water toward the LED fittings during cleaning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the umbrella come with a base?

Yes. Every double canopy umbrella in the Shadelys range includes a sandbag base. Fill the sandbag fully with dry sand before first use — this provides the ballast needed to keep the umbrella stable in normal outdoor conditions. Builder's sand or river sand, available in 25kg bags from most Australian hardware stores, is recommended.

Always ensure the sandbag base is fully filled before opening the canopies. Close both canopies during strong or gusty winds and whenever the umbrella is left unattended.

Can the umbrella be used in windy conditions?

The umbrella is not windproof and no tested wind-speed rating is stated for this product. The double canopy design — spanning 449cm across — presents a significantly larger surface area to wind than a standard single umbrella. Even with the sandbag base fully filled, closing the canopies in strong or gusty conditions is essential.

Close both canopies during strong winds, whenever the umbrella is left unattended, and before repositioning the base.

How should I care for the canopy?

Both polyester canopies can be cleaned using a soft cloth, mild soap and water. Prolonged exposure to sunlight and outdoor conditions can gradually affect any fabric colour — closing and covering the umbrella when not in use helps preserve the appearance of both canopies over time. Allow both canopies to dry fully before folding or storing the umbrella.

For the integrated LED fittings, avoid directing high-pressure water toward the LED components during cleaning. Wipe the fittings gently with a damp cloth only.

What size table can the umbrella cover?

The double canopy umbrella spans 449cm in length and 265cm in width at full opening. This footprint is suited to extended outdoor dining tables seating eight to ten people, large pool decks and open entertaining terraces where a single standard umbrella would leave part of the setting uncovered.

Note that the mast is positioned at the centre of the structure — both canopies extend outward from a single central pole. Actual shade coverage varies depending on the sun angle and umbrella position throughout the day.

How do I choose the right canopy colour?

All double canopy umbrellas in the Shadelys range feature a two-tone canopy combination — one colour paired with dark grey. Consider how the primary canopy colour sits alongside the furniture, flooring and finishes already present in your outdoor space.

Neutral combinations such as sand white and grey or taupe and grey blend naturally with timber, stone and concrete surfaces. Deeper tones such as anthracite and grey or bordeaux and grey create stronger contrast and a more defined visual presence. Vivid combinations such as azure blue and grey or green and grey connect the shade structure to the garden or coastal environment around it. Colours may appear slightly different depending on natural light and screen settings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the base remain stable without being fixed to the ground?

A compatible weighted or anchored base may be used on a flat, stable surface where the product instructions permit it. Stability depends on the umbrella, ballast, installation surface and exposure.

Do not assume that a base is sufficient because the umbrella appears stable in calm conditions. Close the canopy during strong or gusty winds and whenever the umbrella is left unattended.

How many people can sit in the shaded area?

A double canopy umbrella covers two adjoining outdoor zones from a single pole, with a combined shade footprint suited to long dining tables, wide pool surrounds, and paired lounge arrangements. Coverage varies by model — check the individual product dimensions for the exact shade area. If your space calls for a large single-canopy format instead, our Large Cantilever Umbrellas collection covers comparable areas from an offset mast with full 360° rotation.

Our outdoor umbrella size guide sets out how to measure your setting and match it to a canopy size.

Are double canopy umbrellas waterproof and do they provide UV protection?

Most residential canopies are water-resistant rather than fully waterproof, designed for sun protection and light showers rather than continuous rain or use as a permanent roof. The polyester fabric used across this collection is UV-resistant and anti-fade; for improved wet-weather performance, apply a waterproofing spray to the canopy at the start of each season. Check the individual product page for the specific fabric rating. Shade can significantly reduce direct ultraviolet exposure, but reflected and indirect radiation can still reach the area beneath the canopy. For Australian conditions, combine well-positioned shade with the other sun protection measures recommended for the day.

How much wind can a double canopy umbrella withstand?

No universal wind limit applies to all double canopy umbrellas, and individual products in this collection do not carry a tested wind-speed rating stated on this page. Wind ratings published for another model must not be applied to a different umbrella.

Close the canopy during strong or gusty winds and whenever the umbrella is left unattended.
