This terracotta cantilever umbrella is the one in the range that brings colour to the outdoor space rather than deferring to it: a fired-clay tone that sits naturally against red brick, sandstone, rammed earth and the warm ochre tones that run through Australian architecture from the outback to the inner city terrace.
The rectangular 70 x 50 mm powder-coated aluminium mast rises at an angle from the cross base, leaving the area beneath the canopy clear. Eight aluminium ribs support the double-top vented canopy. The upper opening allows some air and heat to pass through the canopy.
Above a natural stone terrace, a rattan and timber lounge setting or a concrete alfresco with warm-toned planters, the Autan XL brings a Mediterranean warmth that neutral tones simply cannot replicate. Terracotta doesn't compete with the garden — it draws from it, referencing the same clay palette that shapes everything from garden pots and roof tiles to the red earth visible in a drive through regional Australia.
The Autan XL opens to a rectangular 400x300cm canopy — a full 12m² of shade. The UV-resistant polyester canopy is designed to help limit fading caused by normal outdoor exposure. Installation and Maintenance
The cantilever umbrella can be assembled in under 30 minutes using the supplied instructions. Place the aluminium cross base on a flat, stable surface, secure the mast in position, then open the canopy using the crank handle.
The umbrella must be installed with a compatible ballast or anchoring system fitted to the included 100 x 100 cm cross base. The Holdfast Base Weight Kit is designed for compatible cross bases and provides up to approximately 100 kg of added ballast when all four plates are fully filled with dry sand. The kit is sold separately.
Ballast does not make the umbrella windproof. Close the canopy during strong or gusty winds and whenever the umbrella is left unattended.
The polyester canopy with PA coating can be cleaned using a soft, damp cloth. Allow it to dry completely before closing or storing the umbrella. When not in use for extended periods, close the canopy and protect the umbrella with a suitable outdoor cover where possible.

How many people can sit in the shaded area?
A 3×3m cantilever umbrella provides 9m² of shade — enough to comfortably seat 6 to 8 people around a standard outdoor dining table, with clearance around the chairs included. Most residential canopies are water resistant rather than fully waterproof, so they are designed for sun protection and light showers, not continuous rain or use as a permanent roof. Shade can significantly reduce direct ultraviolet exposure, but reflected and indirect radiation can still reach the area beneath the canopy. For Australian conditions, combine well positioned shade with the other sun protection measures recommended for the day.
How much wind can a cantilever umbrella withstand?
